Baba'mirri Wanga farm, the home of Chickens’ Choice is managed as a “Pastured Free Range system” farm with Pastured having the definition of:-
“All birds are raised outdoors with continuous and unconfined access to pasture throughout their life time. They are kept at a stocking intensity that will ensure forage is always available in a sustainably managed rotational grazing system”
Pastured eggs are the true measure of ethical and sustainable egg production. Raising poultry in the outdoors is nothing new, it has been practiced for centuries and it wasn't until around the 1950's that intensive, housed production systems were born. Pastured farming is a little old fashioned really but that's just the way we like it and given the rise in demand for our pastured eggs, so does the consumer.
To help facilitate the pastured system of farming Baba'mirri Wanga farm is undergoing a major capital works program.
Starting with the removal of all the old Cypress trees that border the property and while doing this all fences, both boundary and internal are also being replaced.
The property has been divided into a number of large paddocks with wide “laneways” between each of the paddocks to allow for the easy movement of the chicken caravans from paddock to paddock as the need arises.
A massive tree planing program is also underway starting with the boundary fence line and then continuing along all the laneways.
The appearance of Chickens’ Choice is constantly changing on a day by day basis as all the various work programs continue to make huge improvements to the property. While these works continue they are committed to continue to supply you with the best pastured chicken and duck eggs.
